Step 5: Register to Vote!
At this point, you will be a U.S. citizen! You will be able to apply for a U.S. passport and register to vote in U.S. elections. You could even be one of the candidates, as only U.S. citizens are able to hold elected public office.
Citizens have full rights and protections under the United States Constitution. Non-citizens, even lawful permanent residents with long term residency in the United States, may face the loss of their status under certain circumstances resulting from changes in immigration law.
